$100 to Dine Out, See a Movie or Visit a Zoo!

Enjoy a night out, for FREE with vouchers by the NSW Government. Finally they do something good!
#nsw #free #freestuff

There’s many things governments around the world are doing to boost the economy hoping for a jump in jobs, and the NSW Government came up with a brilliant idea to give everyone in NSW, Australia $100 for free, which must be spent at bars (food not alcohol), restaurants, theatres, cinemas, theme parks, museums and wildlife parks. The catch? The free $100 is presented as vouchers and may only be used in specific designated venues who register to receive the vouchers.

Still, $100 is free money, even if it’s a voucher in these trying times. Especially if it takes you to somewhere you haven’t been like the new Sydney Zoo or allows you to try that new trendy restaurant you’ve seen on instagram. If you haven’t seen your friends in a while, it’s a great opportunity to get out, in a COVID safe way, whilst supporting local businesses.

Just the other day, I went to my favourite Lebanese eatery, The Prophet Restaurant in Surry Hills. It’s been operating for over 40 years as I remember going when I was a kid, with much of the same staff still working there. The owner was saying how business was down over 40% and some days, they have maybe 1 table for dinner. He mentioned they may need have to close down if things don’t improve.

Awaken your senses

I would be devastated and the world would be a sadder place if the Prophet was to disappear. So make sure you support your favourite local business to help ensure, they are still around for the next 40 years.

How do you get these free $100 Out & About vouchers?

Easy, download the Service NSW App, register (if you haven’t already) and they will automatically become available to use in your account sometime in 2021. It’s not clear exactly when they will be available but expect a notification from your phone or email once they do.

The vouchers will be issued as 4 x $25 vouchers so you don’t have to spend it all in one place. I read somewhere a maximum number of vouchers can be used at any one time but no doubt details will be finalised once the vouchers are issued.

If you’re a business and want to get involved in the Out & About Scheme, here’s what you need:

  • have a MyServiceNSW account
  • be operating in NSW  in one of the eligible industries (details to come)
  • have a valid bank account
  • have an active Australian Business Number (ABN) as of 31 October 2020 and be registered for Goods and Services Tax (GST).

COVID-safe businesses can use their MyServiceNSW business profile to manage the scheme for their business.
