My collection of poetry, Drunk Love Sober Death is available now!
This book is a culmination of:
- Thinking I needed to be drunk to write poetry
- Travelling the world trying to find love
- Losing all my written works in a house fire
- Realising that alcohol inhibits writing
- Discovering being alcohol-free actually promotes creativity
- Losing several friends and relatives in the same year
- Overcoming grief with a new outlook on life
It features over one hundred poems, songs and micro stories split into two books. Book one features poems originally lost in the house fire, saved by my younger self, who hand-wrote my favourite poems into several notebooks and gifted them to my closest friends. One of those notebooks survived and Emma, posted her notebook back to me, a few months after the fire.
Re-reading those early words sparked my drive and in trying to rediscover the zest of writing furiously, I recalled removing alcohol was a major contributing factor to previous writing success (when I wrote my play, Compass).
So I removed alcohol, switching to cold fruit tea and unsurprisingly, words flowed freely. This productivity continued into songs, articles, novels and podcasts.
